ANOTHER LETTER TO THIS EDITOR
The current talking point being promoted by the DSC leadership is that DSC is true religion while the Episcopal Church is false religion. Therefore, the 13,000 communicants in the 29 parishes that the courts have returned to TEC have to make a binary choice between good and evil. Two recent letters to the editor in the Charleston Post and Courier have exemplified this propaganda. One was from Clark Thomson (find it here ). Another was from Susanne L. Lemke (find it here ). Lemke accused TEC of being heretical and apostate: "TEC therefore has left the most basic of the tenets of the Christian faith." That is obviously a serious, sweeping charge that she supports with a single piece of evidence, one remark of Katharine Jefferts Schori.
Yesterday's letter to this editor turned out to be highly popular, with hundreds of hits right away, even going viral on Facebook. We now have a second letter to this editor about the DSC campaign of the demonization of TEC. I present it here:

Dr. Caldwell---
Good thoughts in that letter that you shared with us today [June 30]. I have one comment on the letter to the editor in yesterday's P & C to which the letter referred.
Not being---in even the broadest sense of the term---a "biblical scholar," I opened up my old Bible to look up the two verses from John to which the letter writer referred. And I was AMAZED!
There is nothing---nada, zilch, zero, nil, O---in those two passages to which The Episcopal Church, and Episcopalians all, do not wholly subscribe.
Note to P & C letter writer: If you're going to cite Scripture to make a point, you should dig a little bit and find some Scripture that does, indeed, make your point.
In my view, Ms. Lemke was being downright disingenuous and dishonest to cite the Holy Scriptures to support her point of view. If that's the best you can do, Ms. Lemke, if that's the best you've got, then shame on you!
Last point---
I'm waiting for that letter to the editor that cites all of the Biblical references that support discrimination against gay people and women within the church. You know it'll come. And then, maybe someone will ask how about divorce? Seems to me that the Scriptures are pretty clear on that as well, but...Oh well, never mind.
Thanks for what you do. It's great to be alive and able to worship God and enjoy his wondrous kingdom.
Bill Bates (Fifth generation Episcopalian)

I encourage everyone to make your voice heard in this highly important moment in the history of the schism. We need to know what you think, whatever views you have of the matters before us all. Send your letters to the editor to me via email and I will post them, if they are appropriate. I will omit your name if you wish. Let me hear from you whatever your thoughts are.
